‘Bagels &’ on Hypoluxo Road cited for live roaches

Live roaches were found last week during state inspections at only one Palm Beach County restaurant.

Bagels &, a suburban Lake Worth restaurant at 6556 Hypoluxo Road, was closed Thursday after state inspectors cited it for live roaches.

A Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation inspector noted three live roaches in the dishwasher area and three live roaches under the bagel oven in the prep area room.

The restaurant was temporarily closed, fixed the problem, and has re-opened, a man who answered the phone stated. He hung up when asked his name.

Inspectors also listed two intermediate violations in the report. The restaurant had no written procedures available regarding time and temperature controls for holding  potentially hazardous food. It also had a toxic blue liquid in unlabeled clear spray bottles.

Five basic violations were also found, the report stated, including a build-up of food debris underneath the bagel oven and dead roaches inside a storage cabinet.
