Florida Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier

Florida Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier

It’s a scam if you get an email that seems to be from Florida’s insurance commissioner saying your policies have to be cancelled, state officials warned Thursday.

The ploy involves “the unauthorized use of Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier’s name and position,” according to the Office of Insurance Regulation  and the Department of Financial Services,

The state insurance office does not send notices of cancellation and those who receive this email should disregard the information, officials said. Don’t click the links. Delete the email, they advised.

Consumers can report this and other suspicious activity to the Department of Financial Services’ Insurance Consumer Helpline by calling (877) 693–5236.
