Palm Beach County’s average gas price drops 2 cents, AAA says

Gas prices continue to drop.

Gas prices continue to drop.

Palm Beach County’s average gasoline price has dropped another 2 cents in the past week, and  Monday stands at $2.20 for a gallon of regular.

There are more than a dozen stations offering regular at below $2 a gallon, with a few well below that, according to prices posted on

Sam’s Club, 4295 45th Street, West Palm Beach and Sunoco, 774 Northlake Blvd., Lake Park, both have gasoline priced at $1.92 a gallon.

Florida’s average is $2.05, down from $2.07 a week ago, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report.

Prices are the lowest for this time of year since 2004, AAA said.

With WTIC crude oil ending the week nearly $3 higher than it began, the decline in gas prices could slow, said Gregg Laskoski, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.

Oil prices rose following a federal report that showed a sizable draw on gasoline inventory anda strong jobs report, with new jobs for July reaching 255,000, Laskoski said.

“While that may create a brief pause early this week in the decline of retail gasoline, we expect that the prevailing price trend (incremental decline) will resume shortly, barring any additional refinery problems in the midwest, or, potential Atlantic hurricane activity,” Laskoski said.

AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said motorists can now find gas prices under $2 a gallon at 44 percent of gas stations across the country and at half of the gas stations in Florida.
