Taxpayers can now make an appointment with IRS in West Palm Beach

Taxpayers can now schedule an appointment for help in West Palm Beach, Congressman Ted Deutch said Tuesday.

A new appointment scheduling system is available at the IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center in West Palm Beach, Congressman Ted Deutch, D-Boca Raton, said Tuesday.

Taxpayers in need of assistance should call 1-844-545-5640  to make appointments at the West Palm Beach Taxpayer Assistance Center,  1700 Palm Beach Lakes Blvd.

Last fall, Deutch was appalled to learn that taxpayers were lining up outside the West Palm Beach IRS office as early as 4 a.m. for a chance at getting in-person help regarding identity theft, tax payments, and other issues.

After directly raising his concerns to IRS Commissioner John Koskinen, Deutch was informed that the West Palm Beach Taxpayer Assistance Center would begin scheduling appointments as part of a pilot program established by the IRS. The pilot program was created to serve taxpayers more efficiently in the wake of budget cuts that have strained the agency’s resources.

“I am pleased that as of today, taxpayers will no longer have to wake up at the crack of dawn only to be turned away from getting the tax assistance they need,” said Deutch said.

“I applaud Commissioner Koskinen for being responsive to the needs of our community. The ability to make appointments for tax assistance in West Palm Beach will help Floridians avoid taking off work and making multiple trips. In addition to saving people time and money, the appointment-based system will help the men and women of the IRS better serve South Florida, which continues to struggle with high rates of tax fraud and identity theft.”
